Shivani Khoshia

Shivani Khoshia is a visual artist based in Leicester. Her practice explores themes of magic, the occult, ecology, femininity, and the unseen. Drawing on folklore, ancestral memory, and Eastern philosophies, her paintings are conceived as heirlooms of inherited wisdom—expressions of knowledge passed down through female lineages.

She holds a Master’s in Painting from the Royal College of Art (2018), and her work has been exhibited at venues including Safehouse 1, Dyson Gallery, Hockney Gallery, and GX Gallery. In 2019, she was part of a group exhibition at Gerald Moore Gallery curated by Mali Morris.

Since relocating to Leicester in 2020, Khoshia has developed strong links with the local creative community and is an active associate member of Two Queens. Her work has been shown at Eastside Projects, Gloam, Artcore, Surface, LCB Depot, The College of Psychic Studies, Lincoln University, Bostin Gallery, Chaos Magic Space, and Ilkeston Contemporary Arts.

In 2022, she was shortlisted for the Waverton Art Prize and awarded a residency with the Barbican Arts Group Trust, selected by Jasleen Kaur. Most recently, she undertook a residency at The Field in Derbyshire, followed by a group exhibition with the collective at Two Queens.

Her work will be featured in an upcoming publication by Roo Dhissou, Courses for Dis-Course(s), which showcases female artists of South Asian heritage working in the UK today.

Shivani’s practice is rooted in painting but has recently expanded to include collage, drawing, photography and local research—particularly into stories of witchcraft, Celtic mythology, and the divine feminine. Her time in Cornwall coincided with the final days of Tate St Ives’ Ithell Colquhoun: Between Worlds, a timely influence with deep overlaps in themes of mysticism, ecology and sacred femininity.

During the residency, Shivani explored how spiritual ideas are translated into visual forms—visiting ancient sites, trawling local archives, and experimenting with new imagery drawn from moon magic, faery lore, and folklore.

This residency was part of a brilliant exchange between CMR and @twoqueensleicester, and Shivani plans to return at a later point to curate a group show exploring ecology, spirituality and collective imagining.
