The Jangling Man
On Friday 10th Nov we will be screening The Jangling Man in collaboration with Cornwall Film Festival.
Followed by music and drinks.
The Jangling Man is the story of UK-based artist Martin Newell and is an intimate documentary about the genius behind the Cleaners from Venus. He's known by many names – the greatest living Englishman, the wild man of Wivenhoe, the Midnite Cleaner, the Psychedelic Gardener, the godfather of home recording – and he has lived many lives. Regarded by many as an influential figure in the history of cassette culture and DiY recording, Newell's music career spans over six decades and he has quite literally released hundreds of albums, 7" singles, cassettes and CDs.
This film brings to light the amazing career and life work of the artist, who, on top of being the most published contemporary British poet as well as an established gardener, continues to record and release music today.
The film is directed and produced by James Sharp and co-produced and edited by Jim Larson, and features interviews with Mac DeMarco, XTC’s Dave Gregory, DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith, Cherry Red’s Iain McNay, Wild Nothing’s Jack Tatum, and more.
