Dolly Kershaw

Not Set In Stone

Works in progress made of concrete

Dolly Kershaw is a sculptor and cabaret performer who recently relocated from London to Penryn. In her practice she reimagines everyday objects and statements with deadpan humour and a tragicomic outlook that combines the personal and political. Often the work struggles against itself, or its material choices negate its efforts, implying embarrassment and failure.

For the residency at CMR, Dolly has been experimenting with casting elastic bands and bungee cords in concrete blocks to convey themes of tension, cycles, rebirth and the Ouroboros alongside ongoing research into the Trickster archetype. ‘My intention for the residency is to develop a series of works that carry symbolism analogous to the limitations of working with concrete.’
