Charlotte Searle

Charlotte Searle is a multidisciplinary artist whose work navigates themes of place, non-place, mysticism, memory, and desire. Through iterative and intuitive processes, she embraces unpredictability, humour, and error as creative tools. Her practice often produces shifting, imagined spaces where chaos and clarity coexist, inviting audiences into states of flux and open-ended interpretation.

During her residency at CMR Project Space, Charlotte is developing a moving image piece first conceived in Iceland, where she began a dialogue with the sound artist núna. She plans to weave collected imagery with sound in ways that blur fiction and non-fiction, dissolving boundaries and testing how new visual languages might emerge.

Charlotte often works without fixed outcomes, letting external forces shape her direction. Influenced by Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodríguez’s Let’s Become Fungal!, she explores ideas of surrender, waiting, and transformation, using practices such as knitting to mark pauses in her process.

Based in Brighton, Charlotte studied Fine Art at Falmouth University. Her work has been shown at Fish Factory (Penryn), Grays Wharf (Penryn), and Wharfside Art Hub (Penzance). In 2025 she held a solo exhibition, Salted Milk From The Black Sun, in Neskaupstaður, Iceland, and exhibited in the group show CORNISH MAIDS in Penzance. Returning to Cornwall for this residency, she is reflecting on ideas of home and belonging from a new perspective, while remaining open to chance and transformation.
